(2 hrs) Learn how to cut, bend, shape and shear metals in MADE's metal shop. This class provides an introduction to the basic tools of metal fabrication, including the vertical bandsaws, horizontal bandsaw, drill press, cold saw, shear, brake, slip roll, universal bender, bench grinders, disc sander, and ironworker. You will learn about measuring and marking, feeds and speeds, workholding and coolant - as well as best practices for working in a community shop. Taking this class qualifies you to reserve and use the basic metal shop at MADE if you become a member, so you can get to work making table frames, wall brackets, armature for sculpture, and much more! Make sure you wear closed-toe shoes, and avoid clothes with loose sleeves or dangling strings. No need to bring anything with you; all tools and protective gear are provided for class. This training does NOT include welding or machining equipment.
